John Niven Cooper was born on 15 February 1946 and was raised in Anderson, Glasgow until he moved out of the area with his young family in 1979.
John dedicated his life to serving others and he was a positive influence in the life of many young boys and young people through his unwavering commitment to the Boys Brigade, until his death in 2023. John started his Boys Brigade adventure as a Lifeboy and progressed through the ranks to become a Captain. John was also instrumental in establishing the Glasgow Battalion Brass Band.
John was a keen historian and writer about Scottish History and The Boys Brigade. However, John's commitment to ensuring Anderston's history was documented led him to write a number of books about the Anderston area that are available on the publication link below and in The Mitchell Library, Glasgow. Throughout his life he remained influential in supporting Anderson through his work with The Weavers Society of Anderston.
His story is one of commitment, honour and respect. John was the Sure & Stedfast in many of the lives that he touched.
